Question:
What's up with "spaded"?

Do people seriously think it's "spaded", not "spayed"? Lol I've seen it a lot here lately.

LG, just incase.. when did you get your dog spayed/neutered, or is he/she still intact?

It makes me cringe, too, but I try to ignore stuff like that if it seems like an otherwise valid, thought-out question, LOL. And you're right- I have quite a few friends in their 30's and 40's, who are otherwise smart but spell like a 3rd grader.

Some people just have a hard time with spelling.....they may read the "correct" spelling a hundred times, they SEE the word and COMPREHEND the word....but they fail to retain the memory of the proper spelling. My husband's like that....it can be a word he's seen a million times, a word he's very familiar with, but when it's time to spell it, he takes a best-guess and spells it like it sounds.

Yet even though the man usually can't spell the word "piston" correctly, he built a race car out of a Camaro before he was 19 years old, with no formal mechanical training. He's made major repairs to our semi truck on the side of the road. He does all the basic maintenance on our cars, correctly identifies problems if he doesn't have the tools to fix them. And yet, I'll struggle for a solid hour with a simple oil change. Being with him has taught me humility, patience, and acceptance for other people's abilities. If I were broke down on the side of the road, alone....the fact that I can spell "predicament" wouldn't do me much good, LOL. People have their strengths and weaknesses. :)

Legit: Two of my females are spaydeded ;)....happened before I got them (rescues)....I suppose they're lucky, they don't have to have period cramps anymore? I had my male noodered at 8 months....and I think he still misses having "thingies". My newest dog is still intacteded?, and she'll stay that way as long as she passes her OFA screening next year. She's the only one not spaydededed, so I'm not too worried about her getting pragnateded by my noodereded Besenji dog. Actually she is 14 months & currently on her period; but no worries, I taught her how to use a tampon and I gave her some Midol. She's currently laying on the couch eating raw cookie dough and watching the Lifetime Movie Network. :D

Some people just honestly do not know how to spell or care to spell check. It does amaze me too sometimes. I don't typically have a problem with it if they are gnerally asking for help in regards to they spayed their dog and there are problems after..or they are wanting to know when is the best age to spay a dog etc.

At least you know they are trying to be responsible pet owners and are just unfortunate that they don't know how to spell or don't care to know how. People who on the other hand cannot spell and want to breed their dogs and use these terms incorrectly...then yes that bothers me as then I have to judge them on a whole different level based on what I believe to be a lower IQ or just plain ignorance.

Legit: Izzy Labrador Retreiver - spayed 1 year.

Mia Labrador Retriever - spayed @ 1 year 6 months I believe...?

*Might I add both went through one heat cycle and DID NOT get pregnant. It doesn't take much to handle an intact female (s)!!*

Watson Basset Hound - neutered 6 months of age..would have liked to wait longer but had to due to limited registration requirements...blah.

You would *think* in this wonderful age of HIGH technology, spelling would NOT be an issue? Right? I mean, really? When I was a kid being able to SPELL correctly was a must. And knowing the meaning of the words......how ya like that one? We had to know what the words meant! Good grief. That is a lot to ask for.

I have seen spaded. Also newter. Love that one. Periods. At least they usually spell it correctly.

I remember one questioner who asked when would be a good time to neuter his female. The question was just fine. The answers made me roll on the floor.

(Clears throat) *You are stupid. You don't neuter a girl dog. You spay her.*

*You can't neuter a female! They don't have thingys!*

*It is spay, not neuter.* << THIS answer came from a Level 7 TC....

Neuter is not gender specific. If you want to get technical it is called castrate and neuter.

Anyway, all of my dogs are neutered except for our 15 week old Terrier mix and she will be done after her first heat.

I have no idea...but I have 2 different family members, one on each side, who say it all the time when talking about the subject....weird part is, no matter how many times I educate them (nicely) on how to properly say it...they STILL say SPADED....Grrrr! It drives me crazy.

Legit-Zoey was spayed 4 years ago. Niña has an appointment to be spayed the 29th of this month & she is a year old.

Taz & Pixie are intact & Taz my male will likely remain intact...there is no real benefit to having him neutered.

Pixie is 4 & will be spayed before too much longer as well.

When I worked for my Vet- the terms we used among each other were "spay" for a female, "castrate" for a male. We weren't allowed to use the term "Castrate" to clients....the reason.....the word itself was too harsh & didn't sound as good as "neuter".

Castrate actually means both "spay" & "neuter".

Neuter refers to removing an animals reproductive organs which can be male or female.

It is the term Spay that refers to the removal of a females reproductive organs.

It drives me crazy! I hate bad spelling/bad grammar. Ugh. Don't all computers have spell check nowadays? O.o

I also hate when people don't know the difference between a neuter, a spay and castration.

Legit: Kingston was nudered when he was.. 4 or 5 months? I don't really remember.

Lacy is getting spaded in about a month, at 5 months. Gaz will probably get spaded around the same age.

LOL

Not everyone has the best spelling abilities. Or, maybe, they don't like spell check.

LG- I think the only dog we've ever owned that was intact was Charcoal, the Lab/Akita I had when I was 5. Both Buddy and Rock have been spayed. Rock at the shelter, Buddy at a very nice and cheap vet.

I was just reading the replies to one question and thinking 'some of these people need to be 'spaded' - preferably round the back of the head'.

Grump grump grump...

My pup was neutered (that's the proper word for males guys - take note!) at about 5-6 months. I'm shocked to read a previous person said they had their pup neutered at 8 weeks. That is wrong on SO many levels. They NEED their hormones for healthy growth and development when they are babies! I'm even more shocked that the vet didn't know this!

Maybe they have some unconscious desire to be out working in a garden while they're typing on Y!A.

Or, maybe they just don't know how to spell and simply don't care.

LG: I have one spayed female, done at about 5 months of age, as well as an intact female and an intact male.

We are seeing the failures of our education system today. This is why we are seeing "spaded". Which, by the way, is digging up the garden not surgical removal of reproductive organs.

My current dog was spayed at age 2 1/2 (3 weeks after she came to my home).

Pomeranian - 8 months not neutered and not going to be

Akita- neutered at time of purchase from rescue 2 yrs

My female was spayed at 5 months. She's a good girl, and I will always get every one of my dogs spayed or neutered.

You have to consider the age group of the people answering (under 15) when you consider the answer spaded. Or spade, my dog is spade. Along with my dog has her period what can I do to make her comfortable and less crampy.

Consider the age range and you'll understand the spelling and poor grammar.

My dog is spayed and has been since six months old.

Yes, all of my animals are spayed/neutered. My Labrador Retriever was neutered at almost 2 years of age, and my Bulldog was adopted at 3 years old and was already neutered.
2010-09-13 20:13:46 UTC
lol I'm thirteen and I know that it's "spayed" and "neutered"! It's terrible how people spell these days.

Our dog got neutered before we got him, and we got him at about 6 months old.

Its the same people who think their dog goes "poddy", who "loose" their keys, and cant control their "chiwawa" or "doxin".

There was a gal the other night who was actually trying to defend her misspelling.

I guess spelling is just a lost art. :o)

All the dogs in my house are neutered.

******

DeeDawg - Yep, that was the one. I just couldn't leave it alone when I saw her arguing with you over the proper use of "doxin".

Sadly, spell check can only help if the word is misspelled, not misused.

Lol... I have seen that a lot lately. Also nudered.

LG: My dog got neutered at the pound when I got him at around 8 weeks old.

ms manners, you mean when she tried to tell us "doxin" is an acceptable name for dachshund?

ignorance never ceases to amaze me.

it annoys me when people misspell things, but honestly, if someone says "i just had my dachshund nudered", at least they knew how to spell their own breed, and they neutered it.

if someone says "i'm not getting my chiwawa spaded becuz i want her to get pregnet and hav pupps" then i get annoyed....

LEGIT: i don't alter my males. i have no need. (newbies, DON'T preach to me about all the benefits. really)

Tank, Buke, Woodchuck- intact dogs

Dallas- spayed at 4 yrs

Ella- spayed at 7 months. i wanted to keep her kenneled together with her brother when she was young, so i just did it early. i'm glad i did- we NEVER have accidental pregnancies, but the world does not need any more Ellas, really, i'd have to cull or keep the whole litter if ever there was one, LOL.

It bothers me too. But with the little kiddies on here, you see it a lot. Huh? Sometimes I think that they don't even go to school to learn a thing.

My dogs are usually fixed by the time I get them (rescuer) & if not they are done ASAP. Puppies at 4 months & adults as soon as I get them.
