What is the personality type of these kind of dogs & are they nice or mean ?
-Blood hounds =Big, low indoor activity dogs, may be barkers but are not guard dogs. Good with kids, but DROOL prolifically & will sling spit everywhere including walls (on a regular basis). Best scenting nose of all AKC breeds.
-Great dane = Giant breed, affectionate, low indoor activity level. Short lifespan of 7-8 yrs; prone to bone cancers, bloat & hip dysplasia. Watch dog (alarm barker) but not guard-dog. Tend to lean on familiar people. Low learning rate. 140-170 lbs for males (up to 36" tall).
-Presa Canario = Lg breed weighing 85 for females, 100 for males originally bred to work livestock. Ear are normally cropped giving them a firece expression (and may be mistaken for pit bulls). Higher in rear than the shoulders. Presas are of strong character and are dominant animals requiring early socialization and obedience training. In some situations, the Presa can be aggressive toward other dogs and suspicious of strangers. NOT for novice owners, serious guard dogs.
-Bull Mastiff = Are smaller than mastiffs & are a cross of Mastiff 60% & bulldog 40% (weighing up to 130 lbs). Used as gamekeeper's dog to pursue, knock down & hold poachers. Both watch & guard dog. Behavior problems include excessive dominance to familiar people.
-Cane Corso = Weigh 88-110 pounds are heavier boned than Weims but tend to be similar in height. May be one of the most complicated breeds out there. It deserves serious pre-purchase contemplation and overwhelming post-purchase dedication. The Cane Corso is a dominant, guardian breed that is sensitive and naturally aloof of strangers. They are not social butterflies by nature and require extensive socialization and training. They require owners, this includes the entire family unit, to be confident and understand the pack order concept of dog psychology. They should primarily be housedogs as they long to be with their masters and suffer if parted from them extensively. Corsi should only be considered by those who have ample space for the dog to exercise.
-Coon hound =Smaller than Blood hounds, affectionate with kids, but are often independent, as a rule. Primarly used to track/tree raccoons and can be very vocal as well as hard to pull off or discourage from chasing game. Not usually protective.
-Mastiff = Massive breed; often weighing 200 or more pounds, making them hard to house and expensive to feed. Low indoor activity level, low learning rates, short lifespan, prone to hip & joint problems. Both barkers & guard dogs. Food theft & snoring are common problems.
-Rottweiler = Can be difficult to get home owner's insurance, if you own (due to breed bias). Both alarm barkers & guard dogs. Not as social as some of your other breeds, can be dominant. Low learning & obedience rates.
-Saint Bernard = Highest rate of hip dyspasia of any AKC breed. Puppy mill versions dramatically different in character, to well-bred versions. Two coat types. Prone to breathing/drooling problems; have serious difficulty in warm or high heat climates. Short life span.
-Weimaraner = super-active breed, affectionate/velcro breed, needing massive amount of daily aerobic exercise. Need experienced alpha owner, can be manipulative and very smart (known to problem-solve). Can be food thieves, may have separation anxiety. Weigh 60 lbs females, 80 lbs males. Normally a barker & guard dog. Less joint problems than many of the others & longer life span of 10-12 years. Prone to bloat, but not as much as Danes.
