Okay so I have a 8 yr. old Shihtzu. And while I know they are prone to eye problems my dog has NEVER had a problem with her eyes before other than the usual tear staining.

I can't remember anything happening to her eye. (such as any injury I don't think anything happened.)

So basically I was up at 6:30 am today, she was completely okay, acted fine, eye okay. Got up at 7:30 again didn't notice a problem with eye or behavior. Around 9 I noticed on of her eyes was closed slightly and the white part was slightly red. I just thought she had a hair in or eye or something. Didn't think anything of it. Fast forward to 12:30 today and her eye is almost completely shut, the white part is completely blood shot, her eye is watery, she won't open it at all. Her other eye looks fine but it's kind of closed to? I tried to look at her she started shaking (has stopped now) but her behavior is off. And her eye is almost completely closed, obviously it's bothering her. I look at her eye it looks "normal" other than red, and watery. (Like it doesn't look like there is an injury to her eye or anything and she is moving the eye around and looking.)
I am with her pretty much 24/7 and I don't think anything injured her eye.

I am freaking out. I made an app. with the vet but they can't get her in until tomorrow at 10:00. They said that it might get better on it's own but if not, then bring her in, in the morning.
She has never had allergies or anything. Nothing in her environment has changed (no new food, detergents, carpets cleaned, ect, anything like that.) She hasn't been near any other strange dogs, just our other dogs who are all fine. And only been in the backyard to potty. (though other dogs could get in our yard. but no direct contact with other dogs.)

My questions:
Do you think she has cancer or something?
Do you think it's allergies? Would allergies suddenly start like this?
Do you think it's an eye injury?
Do you think it's just an eye infection? Pink eye? Or something much more serious? (like that eyelid prolapse dogs can get and it requires surgery to fix.)
What will the do if it's an infection? Prescribe cream to put in her eye?
And what's usually the cost of such things?

Anyways, I am freaking out and can't get her to the vet until tom. (that was there earliest app. time available.)

Sorry for the poor grammar and spelling.
Thanks in advance for any answers!

P.S. I was going to actually take her to the vet for an exam and blood work in a few weeks. Do you think he could do a full exam on her when he checks her? Would it cost more?

Emergency vets are open 24/7. Most likely, depending on the problem, your regular vet will refer you to a canine ophthalmologist. Last visit to a canine ophthalmologist cost me around $1200.00.

Vet. Now. Don't wait a few weeks.

Please go to the vets, it could be pink eye but could be something serious. My neo mastiff has cherry eye and needs surgery to treat it.
