Maltese! they're very beautiful dogs! :) They're also nice to touch. I personally own one and they're also a good source of entertainment... They're not annoying as well

Contrary to popular belief, small size doesn't necessarily an apartment dog make -- plenty of small dogs are too high-energy and yappy for life in a high-rise. Being quiet, low energy, fairly calm indoors, and polite with the other residents, are all good qualities in an apartment dog.

Jeeze, I was sure thinking the same thing Yo Lo!

Shih Tzu, Shih Tzu, Shih Tzu! That is how you spell it.

It really depends. How active are you? Will the dog get a walk every day? Do you want the dog to play fetch?

Any dog in the Toy Group will do fine http://www.akc.org/breeds/toy_group.cfm

BTW for all of you out there that spelled it wrong, it's SHIH TZU...

I'd suggest a Hybrid dog. Why because you get selective breeding to obtain the best traits of each parent. I have a Shichon who is the most lovable dog you'll ever met and he is stunning!! Sure some still complain about "mixing breeds" and to be honest yrs ago before I educated myself so was I however mixing of breeds was going on long before it was thought of in regards to creating a dog that is hypoallergenic or nonfading. They can however be pretty spendy depending on if you plan to use it for show or agility or for breeding and if its registured with the National Hybrid Registry. Check out your local shelter or petfinder perhaps you can save a dog in need of a home.

I live in an appartment and I have a chihuahua, best dog EVER! they are loyal and they have cat like qualities like for example they like to keep clean, my dog does not bark and even if she does she is too small to make too much noise.

I know someone who has a Bichon which looks a lot like a small poodle only cuter and she {Daisy} Likes to pretend she is a guard dog with a bark that scared a dog 3 times her size away. A very good watch dog.

Well, my aunt lived in an apartment and had a shih tzu, and a pomeranian. They were easy to train and very small. Some other suggestions are:

Chihuahua (Very small, and loyal.)

English or French Bulldogs (Usually small, but can be aggressive.)

Yorkshire Terrier (Small, but can be aggressive towards children.)

Welsh Corgi (Small, but are prone to back problems.)

Dachusaunds (Small, prone to back problems, not a good athletic dog, can hurt back severely if playing too hard.)

Beagles (They were bred for hunting! So watch out! Make sure you get the small size! There are very large types!)

Boston Terrier (Usually small, good watchdogs, don't really shed, and are very good with kids and adults!)

Italian Greyhound (Very small, very frail, they always shake like the Chihuahua, but they are great with kids!)

Jack Russel Terrier (Usually small, but havce boundless energy, they will tear your house apart if you don't train him very well!)

Minature Pinscher (Very small, have lots of energy, and great with kids, can be trained easily and loves to play!)

Pug ( Usually small, but loves to eat, prone to obesity, don't exercise him too much, or he may begin to wheeze! Just like bulldogs and other dogs!)

Shetland Sheepdog ( Can be small, but may be big! Have a very long coat! Must brush every day! Will shed! But make sure you get the right size! Great with children, very easy to train!)

West Highland White Terrier ( Usually small, but can be long doesn't shed much at all! Great with kids, and an amazing watchdog! has lots of energy!)

Thanks! But, remember.......pick the right one!

okay, you can go to a breed rescue for your new best friend. How much work do you want to have in a pet? I adore my Yorkie, but I work hard to maintain her long coat because I love it. Do some research and consider whether you want a short-haired dog (they will shed and you will wear it) or a non-shedding long-haired breed, which will require more grooming. if you'd choose a hypo-allergenic & non-shedding dog a few breeds you might want to consider are: Bichon Frise, Shih Tzu (pronounced shee-zu), Yorkshire Terrier, Poodle, Maltese. These are all pretty clean little dogs. Whichever you chose, please do your homework and research online and TALK to rescue groups about the pros and cons of each breed(s)! They have many little dogs who are just waiting for someone to love them forever and they can help find you the PERFECT dog for you and your situation.

Other bonuses to consider are: 1) the adoption fees are MUCH less than the price of a puppy from a breeder 2) older pups offer no chewing puppy stage to go through and are housebroken, too 3) they are already neutered/spayed and have all their vaccinations (no big vet bills) 4) they will be grateful to have a home with love and attention!

Best wishes in finding your precious pup!

Miniature or toy poodles would be okay and they are very cute and easy to train as well

Maltese dogs, shitzus. Whippets, which are like a smaller version of grey hound dogs

All dogs need to be walked though, even the small ones

Also the guy that says don't get a dog in an apartment, I think it is okay to have a SMALL dog in an apartment so long as you must walk it every day as it may get bored.

Here's a great site to look at as well as the breeds that may work for you.

Pug

Australian Terrier

Bichon Frise

Bichon/Yorkie

Bich-poo

these are just a very few, I suggest rescuing from a shelter any combination of these dogs try rescue groups or your local animal shelter.

hey!, here's a list of really great small apartment dogs:

1.pomeranian, they shouldn't really need that much excersize, and they would be perfect in a small apartment

2.multi-poo, fun playful dogs don't need that much excersize but they do need some at least, and they would be great in a small apartment

3. basically any lap dog, but i'm getting a dog right now, so here's some advice once you pick out the breed u r getting, read a book a bout it, i'm getting a lab, and in the book i read, there was a lot of info i didn't know.

I was actually looking for an apartment dog myself and I have learned that Chihuahuas, Bichon Frise' and Papillons are the Top 3 for apratment life. We are getting a Papillon.

I have a massive Boxer but the best would be a staffy. They're well mis-understood animals. They are quiet, loving, great with kids(don't leave them alone with them, kids pull ears etc) sensitive, tough little buggers and if he/she is ever with you when someone try's something funny they'll have them.

I would go with a **** su. The name sounds very funny, but they are so gentle and caring. Also they have human hair so if any one is allergic they won't be.

I hope i helped!

Any kind of teacup is a good choice since they don't take up a lot of space, easy to take care of and I'm sure they will go within the weight limit of the managements rules.
