I don't have a dog right now but will be feeding Innova, like I do with my cats. I consider most foods on the market crap, if they contain grains, like most of your common brands. Iams, Purina etc. Agree or disagree?

I feed Orijen 6 Fish to my two Dachshunds. I've been feeding it for about two years and couldn't be happier with it.

As for "why?" there are two primary reasons. First and foremost, my dogs have done extremely well on it, better than on any of the other dozen or so foods I have tried (and I have tried everything over the years from garbage like IAMS, Science Diet, and Purina, to middle-quality food like Blue Buffalo, to high-quality foods like Canidae, Taste of the Wild, EVO, and Innova). They have shinier coats, more energy and stamina, very healthy skin (which was not the case with some other brands - my black dog used to have terrible dandruff, and they were both always itchy! This food cleared ALL of their skin problems up in a matter of weeks). They also love, LOVE the taste, which is always a big plus. Their stools are small and firm with this food, and they only "go" about once per day.

The other reason I like this food is the confidence I can have in the types of ingredients used. It's completely grain-free, and completely filler-free. It's also guaranteed to contain at least 70% meat (All human-grade, unlike the "4D meat" found in a lot of kibble). It's high in quality animal protein and low in carbohydrates. I can also have confidence in the quality of the ingredients (all human-quality and caught/ranched/grown/produced/packaged in Canada, not China).

I completely agree. I too feed my dog Innova. When selecting a food I knew I wanted to go the holistic route with little or no grains. Certainly nothing that you can get at the grocery store, only quality pet suppliers. Originally I went with Canidae but when it made my dog ill I switched to Innova because it had fewer ingredients. I will never go back, he loves it and is doing extremely well on it. I would never feed anything that didn't have meats at the first three ingredients.

Most of the foods out there are actually produced by Iams or Purina - they just have different names like Eukanuba etc but if you read down the bottom of the packet it tells you - this is a product made by such a such.

The same goes with the more expensive ones - same manufacturer - different name.

I just feed whatever my dog is liking at the moment - she gets bored with food and will only eat it for so long before refusing to eat it.

Also I dont think anyone should be getting thumbs down or up - everyone feeds their dogs different and as long as the dog is healthy and happy then who cares? My next door neighbour doesnt feed his dogs what I feed mine and I dont care because it's none of my business..

I feed my dog Purina Pro Plan Selects. I feed her dry food in the morning & canned food in the evening. The main ingredient for the dry food is meat. The reason I buy Purina is because a couple of years ago there was tainted pet food being sold. So many different brands of pet food was affected. Purina was one of the few that was safe.

Hello,

Most commercial dog food really is crap. Read this disturbing article and you'll probably never buy most commercial dog foods again. It also tells of healthy alternatives. It was an OMG moment when I first learned the truth behind most commercial dog foods on the market.

The site is about Golden Retrievers but the information is universal for any dog breeds.

BTW ~ They also offer a terrific FREE 6 Day E-Course on "Secrets To Dog Training and Behavioral Problems". Here is that link.

I feed my dog Natures Variety Prairie. I rotate the beef and barely and chicken and brown rice as the lamb, salmon, and venison are super $$. I feed it because it has plenty of high quality chicken meal, whole grains, not grain fragments like gluten and brewers rice(a beer by product), fresh fruits and veggies, plus their bio-coating which include raw freeze dried foods like ground beef bone for calcium, beef heart, and 3 types of eggs(quail, chicken, pheasant)

I actually did feed purina pro plan selects at one pointed. It's purina's best product. He did good on it, nevertheless they preserve their fish meal with ethoxyquin(he was eating the salmon food), and I wanted a food with stricter quality control just to be safe.
I love my mutts~

I agree. I feed my Mini Schnauzer Basenji cross Merrick Grammy's Pot Pie, it's the only dry food she'll eat. I'm thinking of trying her on Fromm Four Star Chicken. It has basically the same ingredients but I can get it on discount from work. I feed my Husky mix Healthwise Chicken. She eats quite a bit more than the smaller dog and Healthwise is cheaper and I get a discount from work. If I ever make enough money they'll both be on Merrick or Fromm Four Star.

i used to feed my Dogs Innova, but they're now on Evo. i like it a lot, and so do they. and i completely agree. you couldn't pay me enough to feed my animals Iams or Ol' Roy. people who feed their animals that clearly don't look into what they're giving their animals.

I hear Innova is very good quailty food.

But I feed my labrador x retriever guide dog with maxi royal canin for large breed, I feed her 5 + 5 oz royal canin per day, and added bit of water mixed, its good food for my guide dog it helps with her coat stay healthly.

I feed my Dalmatians Eagle Pack Holistic Select. Domino has a wheat and corn allergy and found he does excellent on this food.

They also get RMB regularly.

I feed my dog raw chicken, beef, etc.

Why? because its a natural diet.. its healthier for him, I have far more control of what he's eating.
