I have a beautiful border collie/ australian shepherd mix who is white with a black "saddle" and a few other black spots, and a little bit of speckling (only seen up close). Every time I go for a walk with her people will stop (sometimes while theyre driving!) and ask to come pet my dog. They then proceed to ask all about her and how sweet she is because shes on her back legs with her fronts perched like a squirrel. Anyways, Im terrified that someone will steal her from my back yard or if she gets loose, someone will just scoop her up and claim her as their own. She will walk right up to about anyone, and get in vehicles readily.

I have read about microchipping, tattooing, and just regular tags. Personally, I am looking to do all three. She currently only has her rabies tag on her collar, but Im not working right now so I stay home all day or when I do leave she comes with me. I am in the process of getting her ID tags.

My question is this:

1) What organization can I enroll her into that will give her a tattoo to be identified if she ever gets lost?

2) What organization can I enroll her into (preferably the same as question 1) that will microchip her to be scanned/identified should she ever get lost and turned in?

Please supply websites and any experience with the company or organization. Oh, and I am aware that the chip is not a tracking device.

Thankyou!

Your vet probably knows someone who will tattoo her. The ones around here usually do it at the vet's office.

Avid Friend Chip 800-336-2843 That too will be done at your vet's office or possibly the SPCA or Humane Society.

Your local vet or shelter will microchip her, and then you can register her with the company that supplies the chip.

I don't know of any organization that registers tattoos. Years before chips were popular, I had my dog's AKC # tattooed on his stomach. But I don't know what you could use, since you have a mix. Maybe a date. You need to take pictures of the tattoo and be certain your vet knows.

Make certain she is spayed, so she will be "useless" to anyone who might want to breed her.

The breeder I'm getting my Sibe from offers to get the dogs microchipped with HomeAgain for $35, which is what I'm assuming the plantation fee is. HomeAgain also offers a variety of services with their memberships for only $16.99/yd
