I got a 1.5yr old beagle (female) who lived her life on a doghouse. I now have her as an indoor dog, shes my baby :) BUT potty training is horrible. Its been a month now, and it seems no progress has been made. I think since she lived outside for her whole life, she doesnt understand that being outside is potty time, and inside is not. She just thinks we are going out to play, its getting very tiring. She is not spayed yet, but will be soon. Does being unspayed have anything to do with it? Ive been taking her out every hour basically, and shes still peeing in the house, sometimes as SOON as i bring her back inside. Oh, and i dont spank her, but if i catch her about to go potty inside iy yell NO! and she almost falls over & looks so scared haha ... but i really do think she was abused by her previous owners so i refuse to spank her at all. helpppp! :)

Don't know if this will help in your situation, but it might be worth a try. Works great with puppies though.

Potty Training 101

Set a timer to remind you to take your puppy out every 30 minutes. Take him to the spot you want him to potty and wait patiently until he does. Once he seems to be doing good with that, then set the timer for 45 minutes, and so on and so on. Work at getting it to 2 hours and up. Always take him to his potty spot. If he poops in the wrong place (house, or where ever) pick up the poop and put it where you want him to go and show him nicely so he will get the idea.

Also, take him out every time he wakes up, about 15-30 minutes after eating, and after hard play.

Never tell him NO when he potties in the wrong place because you will confuse him. He will think that the act of going potty is bad, not where he is going potty. And never stick his nose in it. You don't want to scare him or make him angry with you.

Use positive reinforcement EVERY TIME. Tell him something like "good potty" when he gets it right.

Remember, he is a baby. Be patient and consistent. It takes a while to develop bladder control, but give him time and it will happen.

Good reading would be "Training Your Puppy" magazine type book by the editors of Dog Fancy magazine, and "House-Training" also by the editors of Dog Fancy.

Good luck :)

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aM3kj

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

You not only have to potty train this baby but your have to untrain her previous learned potty habits. Yelling at her is a bad idea. Stay calm and gently interrupt her and take her outside to finish. Praise like heck when she does potty outside. The idea is to get her to associate outdoor potty with huge rewards. Star with super yummy treats and wean down to verbal praise after she fully understands potty is to be done outside.

When you take her out do not come back inside until she has pottied and praise as soon as she starts. You have to be consistent, persistant and positive.

You just have to be patient.

Spaying will not help with potty training. You have to train her. When you go outside, stay there until she goes. Then praise her for doing so. It takes a lot of effort, but you have to stay out until she uses the restroom. Don't give up and go back inside.

a thing to do is that when they pee put paper on it and lay it on fresh paper the dog will be attracted to the smell, when you see her about to pee by the paper take her out and ignore her till she pees, then praise here a ton repeat good job, like 10 times. then bring her back in. oh and leave the paper by the door. after she does these for a few days she'll get used to going to the door to show you she needs to go potty
