3 years ago I adopted my dog from this lady, she said the dog has gotten his rabies shot. She said, she took the dog to get rabies shot at some grocery store where they were providing low cost vaccination, but she didn't give me any record of the dog nor the tag. she says she cant remember the name of the organization that provided the vaccine or anything really about it. I need those records but I have no idea who to call or how to find this information. Please help.

You don't need those records. You need to take your dog to the Vet to GET the Rabies vaccine. Those vaccinations are only good for 3 years, so your dog IS due for it since you stated that you've had him for 3 years. I would get this vaccination TODAY, if you can. It's a law that all dogs have a current Rabies vaccine, and if you're dog were to bite someone, the authorities would take the dog away from you, and you'd also end up with a hefty fine, and more than likely have to pay for any medical treatment that was sought from that dog bite. Don't even bother to say that your dog would never bite anyone. Any dog with teeth CAN.

It was three years ago? Then it is time for another rabies vaccination. The longest rabies vaccine is good for 3 years from the date of the shot.

Make an appointment and get the dog the shot. It's cheap.

If it has been three years then the dog is overdue for another shot. Go get one now then you will have a record. Do you even know if the dog got a one year shot or a three year shot? If it was just a one year shot then the dog is long overdue!

That is why animal control is quarantining your dog at their facility for which you will have to pay a fine and his board for the 10 days it is there. If you had proof of rabies you would have been allowed to keep it quarantined at your home. I'm a little surprise that the quarantine period is only 10 days, here is is 14.

Has your dog not been to a vet in 3 years? What about other shots? I'm sure your vet would have asked you when it had its last rabies shot. Any way you look at it, it is time now, take your dog to your vet, or another pet clinic and get its rabies shot and the others. If you need assistance call the local humane society for more information.

It will be very very difficult unless she can come up with the tag or paperwork. My guess is that she's lying.

In my area, Rabies must be redone every 3 years anyway. If you've had the dog 3 years and haven't had it redone, get it done again. You will get the tag to put on his collar and the certificate to keep in your records.

If you need to board the dog or have some situation where you are required to have proof of rabies vaccination, you must realize that the vaccination must be given reliably or months before the reason you need it. If it's urgent, get a titer test (they are expensive) and then get the vaccination. The titer test will show the levels of antibodies and a good kennel will accept it in a pinch. You then show proof of vaccination to show there won't be a gap.

After 3 years, your dog is due for a new rabies shot, anyway. Get it one, and you will have a record of it.

If you have had the dog for three years, your vet will give you the records of the rabies shots and all medical service he has.

Or you could ask the woman what her vets name was and ask him/her for copies for your vet.

Grocery stores don't give animal shots.

rabies shot is only good for one year in my area, you need to find out in yours, the most is three years anywhereso if it's already been three, your dog is no longer legally vaccinated. you need to get the dogs rabies shot and registration in YOUR name.

If she can't remember then your pretty much out of luck unless you want to call EVERY local orginazation & ask.

My question is why you need the records. The shots are only good for 1 yr. You should have had them done 2-3 times by now so previous records would be pretty much irrelevent.
