I have my 15 week old GSD male. He weighs 30lbs 8 ounces. What can i do to fill him in. He is growing in length and height but his stomach looks like it is not full. I feed him Nutro Natural Choice Large Puppy Breed 3 times a day along with one serving per day that includes some wet food or chicken.

Try not to worry about him. By nature GSDs are thin, lean dogs. If you feed him too much he'll either get fat or sick. My male German Shepherd only really filled out nicely at 2 years. But I suppose all dogs are different. But dont do anything until he has more or less stopped growing. He's still a puppy and you'll see how fast they grow. Puppies are very busy and add that to their growth rate, he'll be getting big so fast you wont be able to keep up. So its only natural that they will be thin and gawky. Once he has stopped growing, and has matured, he'll start filling out.

If you are really worried, take him to the vet and they will tell you if he is the normal weight. My GSD puppy used to look quite thin to us, and when we took her to the vet for her innoculations, they told us she was acctually overweight and we had to cut down her food. So just be carefull you dont over feed him or give him anything that would be unhealthy for him.

Hope that helps.

I realise you are in India where dog food may not be as readily available as elsewhere? But for starters, scrap this diet which is totally wrong. This puppy - 1. Should be with his mother until at least 6 weeks, when he'll be weaned, but NOT ready to go his new home. That shouldn't happen until a puppy is at least 8 weeks, and doing well on his diet. 2. Should only now be starting to be weaned onto solids starting with warmed goats milk to teach him to lap and then moving on to 3. A good quality puppy food, mixed with either warmed goats milk or warmed water into a porridge consistency. Once he's a little older, you lessen the amount of liquid you mix with the puppy food until by 6 weeks he's virtually weaned and pretty much able to crunch his way through unsoaked purpose-made puppy food. No cow's milk. No rice with milk - this may have been used in the past with puppies, but with good dog food around these days, this shouldn't be necessary. Dog food has all the extra supplements a puppy needs so his bones, joints and ultimately muscles develop correctly.

Bring a stool sample & have the Vet check it, did the Vet say he was OK when he got his shots & heartwrm test, he's only 3 mo old, GSD are kinda gangly growing up, and hope he stays that way, my Lab is kept on a diet and she 11+ with no jt or hip problems, whats with people wanting to bulk up the dogs, must be little people wanting to make themselves feel big, someone las night wanted to bulk up is boxer puppy, going to do weight training, thought he had a "bully breed" poor little fellow

You never want to "bulk" up a dog, especially a growing puppy. He will naturally start to fill in when he's older. The last thing you want is a puppy who's over weight, this can cause major health problems, to joints, heart etc. Speak with your vet...

DO NOT "BULK HIM UP". Your puppy should be kept very lean for at least 18 months. If you can't see the outline of his ribs from the side, and a definitive "waistline" when looking down from the top...he's overweight. Obesity is the largest contributor to hip problems in GSD's.

Keep him on the large breed puppy food for a year--that's when he's no longer a puppy. He'll grow bigger--geez, he's only 3 months old, give it time!

My German Shepherd is almost a yr. old -- he is short, but has HUGE paws, although he only weighs like 50lbs. (yes he is pure-bred) but he doesn't look like a German Shepherd size-wise at all. My dog eats constantly too!! So I don't know what to do either, I just hope yours gets bigger than mine.

well if you want to fill him in well if you can you should give him some treat, it is called, Snusages. it's a dog cookie and you give it to them when they do something good like, when he goes to the bathroom. If he does things good go to a store and buy a little dog thing Snusges, it's a medium size contanier with treats in it for dogs! It will fill him up soon that is what i do with my 3 year old pug dog. she is 18 LBS and healthy. Take your GSD for 10-15 min walks everyday if you can.

I think he looks wonderful!

Puppies grow at different rates and usually fill out around 2-3 years of age. My GSD looked like a coyote until one day I looked at her and she was all filled out and grown up!

Don't rush his growth. I cannot emphasize that enough. GSD's are very prone to orthopedic disorders and a slow growth rate is the best way to go. Feeding an adult food is often the best way to accomplish this. Remember there is no rush. The dog is going to reach his pre-determinded genetic size no matter what. :)

Famous fat balls

I used them to make my bull mastiff gain weight because he was very skinny

Recipe

Famous Fat Balls

(For Quick Weight Gain)

Ingredients:

* 2 lbs. of raw hamburger, the cheaper and fattier, the better

* 3 or 4 raw eggs

* 1 cup of peanut butter

* 1/2 cup of Karo syrup

* 1 cup of wheat germ oatmeal

Directions:

* Dump it all into a large bowl and mix it together with your hands.

* Form it into balls about the size of a ping-pong ball, and feed up to 10 meatballs per serving.

* It's better served raw to preserve all the fat.

* If you feel you must cook it, microwave the meatballs for no more than 30 seconds on paper towels on a plate.

* Don't cook them too long or all the precious fat and calories will seep out.

* Cool before serving.

I'd recommend not using Large Puppy breed food. Just use a regular adult large breed.

Ehm..

If you want to stop unwanted behaviours of your dog you need to follow a good training course. One of the best I found online is http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=572

. It really helped me a lot. I saw very quick improvements thanks to some gentle, simple and effective tecniques they teach in the course

I would recomment Purina Dog Chow.

&&

Instead of the wet foods.

Cook some hamburger and rice and put it in his dog food once a day.

It should work..It worked for my dog.

put oatmeal in his regular feed, if its dry then add a little water first, chuck in a raw egg for extra protien and a glossy coat.
