ok, so my dad is allergic to dogs since he was a boy. He once had a pincer, german shepherd and was allergic to both of them. i have read that Yorkies are hypoallergenic, but i also hear that there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. Yorkies dont have fur, they have hair like humans, but i think my dad is allergic to the dander. Do you think there is any shots, medication, or any possibility for me to get a Yorkie? Please dont say i am selfish and dont care about my dad, but i am not selfish and i do care about him, i just was curios. So please, give nice answers.

It's true that no dog is truly hypoallergenic- as they all have dander.

. Dander doesn't just come from fur, but it is also found in skin, urine and saliva. You could consider dander to be “pet pollen”. However there are dogs that are known for producing small amounts of dander, thus most allergy sufferers do not have reactions. However different people have different allergies. Because you are allergic to one dog, doesn’t mean you will be allergic to all dogs.

Although many Designer Breeds (such as Labradoodles) are often touted as being hypoallergenic, there is little evidence that this is so. The level of dander and shedding in mixed breeds is not consistent and can’t be predicted.

I would go to animal shelters and see what your dad can handle. Chances are you can find a yorkie or yorkie mix in a shelter that is in a dire need of a home.

I suggest using

You can specify a breed and search around your local area for shelters.

No dog is "hypoallergenic." I'm not sure why so many are under that impression. Yorkies are a non-shedding breed, however, allergies are not caused by shed fur, they are caused by pet dander, which ALL types of dogs have. Not to be mean or anything, but it's very selfish to expect your dad to deal with increased allergies issues or to have to take special medications or shots just so that you can have a dog. The more considerate route would be to wait until you are living on your own and not under your dad's roof.

All dogs shed, all dogs have fur, and all dogs have skin (which is where the dander comes from).

You're dad may be able to get medication to help but that's his decision and it may or may not work for him.

There may be breeds that don't affect his allergies but he'll have to spend time around different breeds and even different dogs of those breeds to find one that would work. Even then there may not be any dogs that work with his allergies.

You can have a dog when you're living on you're own and when you have enough time/ money.

it's true. there are no such things as hypoallergenic dogs. but maltese and bichon frise dogs are good for people with allergies. yorkies as well. they don't have dander, but it is still good to keep them away from your dad half of the time.

We have a schnoodle and shih tzu, and neither one of them sheds. If the yorkie is mixed with a poodle, it shouldn't shed. I'm not sure about a full blooded yorkie. When I was looking for a dog, I used www.nextdaypets.com. It has tons of breeds, including designer dogs, and gives descriptions of them. Hope this helps!

Are you determined to get a Yorkshire Terrier? If you are willing to comprimise on the breed, I would suggest a Poodle.

They come in three sizes; standard, miniature and toy. They don't shed at all so are good for allergy sufferers.

I have a Yorkie, and she hardly sheds at all,I mean not that you can actually see. For your dad, he can get medication for his allergies if his allergies are not that bad.
