Yes, you did your research right- English bulldogs do have health issues, and their overall life expectancy is not that high. The American Bulldog, however, is a wonderful, wonderful dog! It has nothing to do with a pitbull, and it is one of the sweetest dogs. They're intelligent, hardy, loyal, and affectionate. I vote for the American!

Oh and by the way, try adopting! There are so many dogs out there without homes that need love and care. Look on www.petfinder.com for some info on the adoptable pets.

Hope I helped.

In regards to the English Bulldog I do know that the Old English Bulldog is extinct however, breeders are selling them as Old English Bulldogs. They arent truly this breed but very close. Breeders have been breeding different features or characteristics into them to bring back the original. Does that make sense? I hope so. That is all I know about the English Bulldogs though. I have heard of people buying French Bulldogs and American Bulldogs. Wish I could help more.

Both types of Bulldogs have been bred to be less aggressive than in the past.

(you don't even want to know how they do that)

I have an english bulldog that has a slightly longer snout than a standard so his breathing problems aren't as bad and I brought him to a bulldog vet and he said his hips are fine.

He did have cherry eye (corrected by surgery) and he has allergies and interdigital cysts...

You are correct about the health issues associated with englishes.

Here is the best way to decide:

If you are set moneywise to care for the health issues that arise and want a dog that doesn't demand a lot of excercise but cannot be left alone for long periods of time, get the English.

If you want a dog with a few less health problems and the personality that is much like that of an english but needs a bit more excercise and can be left alone while you are at work without having too many problems, get the american.

I would never get anything other than a bulldog even with the issues. They are great dogs without a doubt!

American Bulldogs are cousins to American Pitbulls. They are family dogs, and not aggressive at all. They look similar, but have different temperaments. If you were try to and get an apartment or such, they would allow an American Bulldog, and most won't allow an American Pitbull. Completely different temperaments, but you get the same physical appearance.

i think the english bulldogs are some much nicer in looks and temperament ok they have breathing issues but there great dog the main reason people dont wont to buy one is because there so

expensive your gonna be looking about 2 thousend pound for one

but the american bulldog is not as nice to look tempreament family but it will attack anyone that poses a threat to there family

so i would either go for the british bulldog or another breed such as a pug or a mix

good luck

I have friends and family with English Bulldogs and they are GREAT pets, I know that they aren't agressive or mean at all, but am unsure about all the facts on american bulldogs.

I am including a link fir each breed that should be able to help you come to a decision! Good luck!

American Staffshire Terrier is the correct name for a "Pit Bull". In my opinion I think that a American Staffshire Terrier would be the best, depending though on very important things.

First, do you have the time to dedicate to this animal?? Play, train, and LOVE?? This type of breed is one that will be your best friend and the best dog you would ever have as a companion I really believe that they are great dogs, just so long as you are dedicated to them. They don't turn aggressive for no reason, no dog does. I have had many breeds of dogs, and the American Staffshire Terrier is one that I have not had mostly due to not having funds to make sure vet check ups and things like this, but I will admit that in the near furture I will have a. American Stffshire Terrier. They are extremly smart, protective, fun, and loving.

Second, if you do decide on the Staffshire Terrier please please please do not allow him/her to have a RAW HIDE of anykind especially pig snouts, this will induce a instinct of hunting, and aggression is the only thing that will come out of that.

Most importantly make sure this animal is of a good bloddline, not just some pup out of a littler os mutts so to speak. Look them up research, you will fall in love.

That completely depends on how you raise and treat them. That goes for every dog. Most dogs aren't born aggressive, they are taught that way. American bulldogs and pitbulls have a history of being aggressive and attacking humans but that's because of improper care due to either the owner or a persons carelessness around animals. But in my experience, they have never really been the aggressor unless provoked.

ok. let me tell you soemthing. i ama true expert on bulldogs. i have 3 dogs myself. 2 english bulldgos and 1 american bulldog. so your asking the right person. you are right with your facts. english bulldogs are 100x cuter then american bulldogs. They are more loving and easier to take care of. but the only problem is that there life expectansy is about 3 yearse shorter and they can possibly drool more and have health problems. the american bulldog is more active and plays more. they are not a cute dog and don't have much haelth problems. they drool too. but not as much as the english bulldog. i am a pretty lazy person and i just like chilling on the couch watching tv. if you are like me, the english bulldog is for you, if you like to run and be active with your dog, i reccommend american bulldog. i personnaly enjoy my english bulldog. they are just soo cute

American bulldogs are less prone to start fights that pit bulls are, though they certainly take exception to other dogs getting in their faces. In general they're more accepting of other dogs that do not challenge them. They are more to handle than an English bullie, but they also are much more athletic and healthy.

American Bulldogs are good dogs just like Pit Bulls, if they are trained right it doesnt matter the breed, sounds like you need to do some research on dogs in general.

i say english bulldogs bc i have 2 and they are amazing! they can have health problems but you have to take care of them and do your research on the pups before you buy one you cant just buy from any breeder. they are just so special and very cute dogs. i love them to death. im telling you now once you own one you will want more then one.

my opinion: english bulldogs are so much cuter and smaller. but if they have health problems and you dont have money for the over priced bill maybe the american bullldog is better.

I dont know about the health of a french bulldog but i think they are cuter than the american.

good luck and have fun with yer new pup. :D

Take a look at this site, and remember even the smallest of dogs can be aggressive if not trained properly .I have 3 Springer Spaniels and a Shih Tzu all from rescue centers and 2 of the Springer bit myself and my son when we first got them , not serious but enough to show us that they thought themselves to be head of the household .We just had to train them now they are fine.

Sounds like the American bulldog would be your better choice.

And its aggressiveness depends on how you train them.
