How far should a German Shepherd Dog go for a walk a day?#


i have a 12 year old Shepherd, who enjoys his walks but i was told via people dont take them too far, but how far is too far???


would u take the dog out on 2 or 3 larger walks or loads of smaller walks?????

Mine is about 2 years old and he walks about I'd say 2 miles a day or runs on the treadmill for about 20 minutes twice a day. so I would say for a 12 year old no more then half that as you don't want to aggrivate their hips or authoritis (Sorry Spelling) You just need to experiment with your dog and find what is right for him you dont want him sore. I would just start with a 30 minute walk two times a day and see how it does if it seems ok extend it little by little.

It's always good to continue walks of probably 1/2 hr several times per day



Or let them exercise as long as they want off leash. Shepherds will never give up whether their joints hurt or are tired but you'll notice your dog slowing down if that happens.

Too much exercise for an older German Shepherd dog will do more harm than good as they suffer from hip problems.I would take him for leisurely strolls rather than long walks

my German Shepherd is 12 and we can't take him for walks anymore due to arthritis, but i would advice several short walks a day to keep him moving.

I was once told you have to tell a Shepherd when to stop as they would keep going till they dropped

At 12 years old, I'd opt for the shorther more frequent walks, especially if the dog has arthritis or joint problems.
